history of the erickson christmas card:

so, in 2003, i thought it would be fun to send a different kind of christmas card (sorry ron's mom!). luckily, my conservative husband was on board and the kids really had no choice. it has become quite the tradition and expected event for family and friends. here's a list of past cards:

year 1: have a white trash christmas (this was my favorite and will be revisited again in the future :) )

year 2: have a groovy christmas (70's style)

year 3: have a "napoleon dynamite" christmas (here i learned ron does a kick ass napoleon impression and i loved him even more)

year 4: rockin' around the christmas tree (80's hair band, LOVED doing the big hair again. megan, on the other hand, cried, "why can't we have a normal family like every body else?!?!")

year 5: ho ho ho and a bottle of rum (pirates)

my layout for you today features a couple of very special embellishments. the red and white felt circle (with twine) came from a hallmark gift bag. the santa was cut from a target paper plate! shut up, it's true! so i challenge you to try getting a little crafty and resourceful with embellishments like these.

ok, so this is a true story! that oxyclean is a wonderful thing! it's like magic in a spray bottle. i first discovered it when i got mud spots all up the back of my new WHITE soccer jersey. hip hop...it's tricky!

cause it's tricky to rock a rhyme, to rock a rhyme that's right on time..it's tricky (tricky, tricky, tricky, here we go..HUH!). when i was in middle school, run dmc was hot stuff. this is one of my favorite songs from them. i was looking totally bitchen' with my neon cut off gloves, tie, fold and pinch rolled 501 jeans, jelly bracelets, aqua-netted mall hair, and jean jacket adorned with about 85 buttons (duran duran, micheal jackson, "gag me with a spoon", motley crew, etc.). oh, the good ole days!!! :)

so i dedicate this HIP HOP THURSDAY to middle school madness...to all the folded up notes passed secretly between classes and doodled on notebooks. all the cool kids were doing it! :)

first grade funnies

1. a group of my kids were at a painting center. i overhear one of the girls (this girl has a bit of a speech problem and a grand imagination) saying this: "i turned my grandma into a BARFLY. she is the best barfly. she is a pretty barfly. there is no barfly better than my grandma!" i thought i was going to pee my pants! translation: BARFLY= butterfly. :)

2. during a journal entry, one of my boys (i actually taught this boy's MOM when she was in 8th grade!) drew a picture of me. next to me was a building with a sign on it that read: "BAR". so i said, in my best teacher voice, "wow. what a great picture. tell me about this place here." he says, "that's the bathroom, duh!" of course! my classroom is right next to the bathroom and he used first grade sound stretching to spell it out. :)

the weather was beautiful at adventure land amusement park today. here are my highlights.

1. i learned a new phrase from ryan. "big fat mad." he said, "if we don't get to go on that ride, i'll be big fat mad at you." i love it and will now start using it.

2. another new phrase i got from a boy behind me on a ride..."ah..no! i dropped that on him like a BOMB!" (re: to the shocking news he told someone)

3. abby played a couple everyone-is-a-winner games and got 2 tiny and somewhat ugly stuffed animals. the first was a little penguin. she named him "PLAN B" wth?!?! who does that?!?!?

4. i had to take a few for the team and ride some spinny rides. not pretty. still recovering.

5. greasy food does not sit well with me. enough said. give me chicken and rice any day.

6. my youngest two love me so much and still want to snuggle and hug in line when it is hot and sweaty.

7. i am in mourning. while descending down the log ride big hill, my all time FAVORITE baseball hat (even though i have others, i always where this one...used to be black, now greyish) flew off. i was really sad.
