hip hop...it's tricky!

cause it's tricky to rock a rhyme, to rock a rhyme that's right on time..it's tricky (tricky, tricky, tricky, here we go..HUH!). when i was in middle school, run dmc was hot stuff. this is one of my favorite songs from them. i was looking totally bitchen' with my neon cut off gloves, tie, fold and pinch rolled 501 jeans, jelly bracelets, aqua-netted mall hair, and jean jacket adorned with about 85 buttons (duran duran, micheal jackson, "gag me with a spoon", motley crew, etc.). oh, the good ole days!!! :)

so i dedicate this HIP HOP THURSDAY to middle school madness...to all the folded up notes passed secretly between classes and doodled on notebooks. all the cool kids were doing it! :)
all stamps are from the MIDDLE SCHOOL MADNESS stamp set, created by me. shut up! it's true!!! check out the unity stamp website http://www.unitystampco.com/stamps/793-uk__320a_middle_school_madness
oh yeah, and by the way, i am the one with the BLOG CANDY today!! (i would normally say "shut up! it's true!!" here, however, i think it might be overkill...) so leave me a comment about the stamps/and or your best middle school memory and you could win one of my middle school madness stamp sets. a random -however, the more clever your post, the better your chance - winner will be chosen when the chelsey lately show comes on tv at night. :)

I'm sooooo with you on the 80's memories! I think we just might have been twins back then without even knowing it! Don't forget stirrup pants with the ginormous shirts over them...and OMG, what about that whole studded phase (right there with the parachute pants!). Ok. Enough reminiscing about the scary old days - WAY TO GO on the new stamps!!!!!!!

Awesome set! I remember my time in middle school and now I have a middle schooler of my own! (I gave birth to her when I was 7! :)) I had a pair of jeans that were so tight around the ankles that I had to lay down and have my brother, mom, friend, whoever was available help me take them off!! They also had 4 buttons on the "fly" and came up to about my boobs! GREAT fashion times!

Jenn said...

Congrats on the new stamp set Jen! :)

There were these two boys at the park the other day talking about how one broke up with his g/f and was seeing another girl who was SO into him and she had his pictures everywhere. The other boy chimes in and says "I would be careful with a girl like that" It went on and on about other stuff like jealousy and more. CRAZY!

I couldn't believe the conversation there were having, scary but funny all at the same time. They couldn't have been older than 10.

Ashley Newell said...

Jen, a GOOD memory from middle school? Are you CRAZY?!? I don't have any! I am LOVING all the sentiments on the stamp set! So fun!!!

Hmmm...middle school memories eh..Well I lived in a small town, so we didn't have a middle school/Jr high, we wen't K-8 at the same school...eek. No,actually it was great, and I kinda wish my kids could do the same...but then again they would miss out on a lot that you get from having the Jr High/Middle school set up, I guess it is a trade off. But let me think here... I remember TRYING to peg my pants, but I was so bad at it that it always fell out..he he..I remember having hit my growth spurt and being taller than almost all the boys (when I swear all of the boys liked the cute, small girls!) and when we had a gymnastics unit in PE all the boys would shout "look out for the cealing" whenever I did a cartwheel!

Tanis said...

OH MY WORD, I totally coulda used that set in grade 6. Yeesh....that will you go out with me note could have come in handy. But i would have had to put a "do you like me" title on it instead, cause we didn't "go out" in grade six.
But my weirdest memory (and perhaps most embarrassing) was when i was trying to find out if a boy liked me, cornered him in the milk storage room, figured out that his friend was eavesdropping and quickly changed my question mid sentence to "Do you like (my friend) Nancy? She wants to know." and then Nancy found out I asked this, and wow was I ever in trouble. Turned out he didn't like anyone anyway. He wasn't ready for girls yet. That was a long story, but you DID ask :)
FABULOUS set Jen, you rockstar.

LOVE the new set, Jen!! I can totally picture you with the 80s duds ;) I don't know about 'good memories' from middle school though....rather awkward time, ya know? I was a journalism geek though, so I got a press pass and hardly spent any time in class my 8th grade year! That was fun :D

Your set totally rocks Jenn!! My kids in the afterschool program have to have this set!! You're so fun!!

OMG I LOVE Chelsey! Too funny! Anywho- I love your new set, it's adorable and I see my kids stealing it from me some day soon! :) My fav memories from Jr High are of our school dances. Especially in 7th grade, our first year.
Every month we had a school dance, nothing fancy, just a night to have fun and dance with a dj and cool lights. All my best memories are at the dances. My first boyfriends, all the young girl dramas and lots of great fun times!
Thanks for the chance, love your stuff girl! :)

Hip Hop Stampers!! Wow you have some creative layouts here. The stamps are just fabulous. Ok today is my 32nd wedding anniversary to my jr high sweetheart. Ok that shows my age, but I want to win this sweet candy. So I thought this might be a pretty good memory to share. :)
Thanks for a chance.

Oops...I forgot to tell you about middle school. I hated it. :D My worst ever memory that I swear ruined my whole middle school life was when I went to go get my haircut and the lady misunderstood and chopped it all off! My hair was about and inch long!

I hated middle school. Now High school was another story. I had a blast. We must be from the same era. I so remeber stuff from this post in your5 blog. I had a wedding anniversary Monday. So I have money burning a hole in my pocket.

(I had to retype my comment. I totally spelled the song wrong. I'm such a geek.) I forgot to leave my memory. We would take a trip every year to this place called Lagoon. It took 3 hours to get there. So on the bus one year we were listening to Bohemian Rhapsody, and headbanging to it. We did this the whole way there and home. The next day I woke up with the stiffest neck and a huge headache. I couldn't move my head for a week!!

Tiff said...

I LOVE your layouts!!!!! SO stinkin cute and so retro! Love your new stampset btw!!!

Great layout pages...In middle school I remember drawing and writing on my books that were covered with kraft paper bags...What a cool set!!!

I was singing along with you as I read the line Tricky Tricky Tricky. I grew up in the 80s and early 90s, so much of this is familiar to me. I think one of my favourite middle year school memories is getting together with friends to dress up and make either air bands, or fake music videos. Jumping around and pretending we we cool, and could sing.

Also, the big hair, the tight coloured jeans, and the big shirts. good times.

HOW FUN!!!!

Great Stamp Set!!

Oops forgot my best MS memory....I think just the style in general was so much fun!! I can remember parachute pants, spikey haircuts and Michael Jackson's Thriller song.

The stamp set is FAB!!!

Kudos to you!!

Wow middle school was a long time ago! I changed middle schools in 8th grade because of a cross country move and I have to admit my memories are a bit fuzzy. I was in middle school in the early 80s. My favorite memory from that time (I can't believe I'm going to admit this...) was getting tickets to Michael Jackson's Victory tour from my parents for my birthday. My daddy took me and it was so much fun.

When I was in middle school, my fondest memory was going to the skating rink. I'd get so nervous when they'd do boy/girl skates. LOL

Sherry Campbell said...

Yay- congratulations on your set! That is totally awesome, dude(ette). LOL! I have a lot of fond memories of skater dudes, hanging out at the mall, talking about boys and clothes with my friends. Where I grew up it was called Junior High (but it's the same) and it was one of the simplest and best times of my life. My best memory was a surprise slumber party my friends had for me. We stayed up all night doing the silliest things including a talent show.

Your Middle School Stamp is AMAZING, I can't wait to get it....I have so many ideas running through my head. Run DMC, what happened to them? I remember my very long purple SWEATSHIRT that I wore with a belt to the jr high(middle school) dance and many other things I'm afraid to admit too. GREAT JOB!!!!!

Michelle said...

Great new set & layouts!!! Middle school memories... big hair, jellies, those 80's clothes-ackkk... I loved playing soccer, going to beach & having fun without a care in the world... I dont miss the 80's so much but I sure miss not being able to run around with no worries.

Tracy said...

I love your new stamp set! Middle School memories huh? Well the clothes (hope they never come back!) I remember, the big belted shirts, scrunchy socks w/wrestling sneakers, jean jackets with patches from old bands. Oh and you were someone's girlfriend if you wore his chain (I think my neck turned green a couple of times - LOL). Those are just days that you laugh about and think - WHY?

I love the lo with all the photos. so CUTE!

I'm not entering, but I do have a funny school memory.

I was running late to catch the bus home and was hurrying down the stair and that is when I fell at the top and rolled all the way down{LOL 18 step I counted them}. At the bottom I was just laying there and that's when the boy I had the BIGGEST CRUSH ON came up and said "are you alive?" LOL I died at that very moment! LOL

Memories: passing notes during class changes and doing my bangs really hight with a lot of hair spray! Very cute set, thanks for the chance to win!

Sigh I **loved** being in highschool in the 80's. My fave memory by far was when I was asked to say a speech in front of the entire school to say a few kind words about my teacher who was leaving. Once I got up there I panicked, tripped over the mike wires to send a screech through the air, dropped her gift, started talking and started bawling, remember- in front of the whoooole school. Snot, tears and everything. Of course initially is was sooo 'oh my GAWD' but I could laugh about it a few days later. It was soooo bad no one even brought it up to me LOL. The funny thing is at that time I thought for sure I was going to be an actress- didn't know I suffered from stage fright LOL.

I was in grade school, but I totally rocked the 8o's look..I remember the slumber parties, tight mini skirts with neon colors, big hoops, tights, big bangs....I heart the fact that this stuff is comming back..I just bought some neon tights and totally rocked them to church!!! The old ladies at church love my outfits...I also miss truth or dare games, spin the bottle and slumber parties, my favorite set...humm...wish...

I remember the fashion when I was in middle school in the 80's was totally tubular!I couldn't live without Aquanet and Dep gel.Pink Bonne Belle lip gloss and Love's Baby Soft perfume. I had the day-glo clothes and jellie bracelets and shoes. The most grody thing I can remember was wearing braces and totally getting food stuck in it at lunch..Gag me with a spoon!

Lolol, I love the layouts, and I'm almost too embarrassed to admit that during the 80s I was a New Romantic, lolol, I don't know if that particular phase ever made it in the States, but it involved lots of burgundy and gold and frilly shirts and crimped hair! Ahem, it was a really timeless look ;P

Hmmmm....middle school memory....I remember for my birthday party in 6th or 7th grade, we had a lip sync contest. My parents videotaped it - it was HILARIOUS! My song was "Lost in Your Eyes" by Debbie Gibson.

Tanya said...

Your LOs are adorable!! And those stamps ROCK- I would love to win some!!!
Middle school memories: hmmm, that's a hard one- I LOVED when I had aerobics for PE & we got to do aerobics to "Let's Get Physical" by Olivia Newton John & Hall & Oates' "Private Eyes."

Very cool layout! And very cool stamps!

Middle School Memories...United Colors of Benetton backpacks and clothes, Hello Kitty Notebooks, changing clothes for gym for the first time (EWWWW!), the sex ed class where you had to watch the videos and see the diagrams, New Kids on the Block, Saved by the Bell, the MALL, after-school specials with Helen Hunt flying out the science lab window on acid, boys, lockers - OMG we have LOCKERS!, being dropped off at football games with your big hair and tight-rolled jeans, thinking life was over when you wore the wrong thing or tripped in the hallway...oh my those were the days! LOL!

I am going to try to NOT watch Chelsea Lately tonight since I need to be on the road tomorrow by 5:00am. Yes, there is only one thing I can think of that would get me out of the house that early and it is...stamping!! The SU regional convention is this weekend and I am so excited I get to go. It would be even better if I checked my email before leaving and was a winner! ;) Thanks for designing such a fun set that takes me right back. Did you have a Rick Springfield t-shirt too? Pretty sure mine was a muscle tee. Can you say gag me?

Bibi said...

I hated middle school....the whole having to fit in thing...was uugghhh....no, though, I think back and it's kinda funny. The most embarrassing and horrible memory I have was when a girl threw milk on my shirt on purpose(thought she swore it was an accident)to see if it was true that I stuffed my bra. WTH?? I was always big breasted unfortunately...and middle school was full of self concious, immature little brats that couldn't stand anyone looking hotter than them so they'd try to belittle them, lol. That's right I was hot and still am, lol. I'm soo kidding, kinda. ^_^
P.S. The girl that did that is now incarcerated for assault w/ a deadly weapon...I guess she had issues, huh?

OMG, I so no know what you mean by Run DMC. I still lidtene to them all the timee on my Sirius radio. Anyways,my favorite middle school memory is hanging out with all my cool friends, styling our bangs as high as we could, using hairspray to keep it in place, while listening to New Kids on the Block. Those were the days.

Awesome new stamps! Middle School memories - sheesh. Braces, the preppy look (am I aging myself here?), an oversize plastic comb with my name on it and just completely abusive amounts of hairspray. Oh, and proving yourself cooler than everyone else by never buttoning your coat or wearing a hat. Did I mention I went to middle school in Maine?

What a fun stamp set and very appropriate for me since I am the mother of middle school age children. My middle school memories is the crush on the boys and telling friends and then them telling the boy and totally embarassing me!! Oh well I lived through it.

Congrats on your new designs with USC, they Rock and I love your layouts with them; perfect.

Middle School, hmmm... that was in the 70's with the bell bottom pants, polyester shirts and Farrah Fawcett hair, if you're as old as me, you'll remember those days; scary as I relive those moments. Also I remember rushing off the bus to watch Michael Jackson's new Thriller video on MTV when they actually showed music videos. Those were the days. Hip Hop away!

What a fun stamp set! My fav middle school memory is in about 8th grade when I got my Jon Bon Jovi hair cut & perm!! I thought I was the coolest(so did everyone else- I think) Even though I was a girl, all those rockers had girly haircuts anyway, right?

This is crazy. I must be past the tired phase and into delirium. I posted my middle school memories on the wrong hip hop blog somehow. Don't ask me how 'cuze I have no idea! Now this is the third time I have tried to do this entry so hopefully the third time will be the charm. As I have said before, I wish I could say I was an '80s middle schooler, but ALAS *sigh* I was one in the mid '70s. My memory, if it serves me right(emphasis on IF), brings to mind my groovy ORIGINAL bell bottom jeans, "far-out" banana-seated purple bicycle, and funky roundish shaped yellow radio(yes, I said radio - no cassettes, no CDs, no I-pods). I remember staying up all night one year for New Year's Eve listening to the top 100 countdown of Pop songs on my little yellow radio. Wolfman Jack and Dick Clark were it then. So I would LOVE to win some freakin' awesome Unity stamps tonight! HIP HOP

Middle school memory - I would have to say it would be trying out for the cheerleading squad with a cast on my arm!!!! I had been on the cheer squad in 7th grade - when tryouts came for 8th grade - I had a cast!!!! lucky for me, they pretty much shoo-ed me in! But it was fun to watch!!

thanks for the inspiration!

THE UGLY = HUGE pink and purple plastic frame glasses!

the stamps are too cute, and definitely perfect for Middle School scrapbooking!

Middle school...my favorite age! They say that teachers of middle school are a bread of their own.....there is something about that age..so silly, emotional, unsure, independent, such a time of oxymorons! Long ago, when I was the student not the teacher, my parents picked me up in full on gorilla suits. My dad swung me over his shoulder and carried me (kicking & screaming in embarrassment) to the car. Is this normal?? ;-) Love your new kit!! Can't wait to get one!
