thanksgiving hip hop

happy happy thanksgiving!!  i am feeling pretty thankful that we didn't have school yesterday so i was able to get some scrapbooking tine in.  my oldest is a senior this year and will be graduating so i need to get my scrap on in a MAJOR WAY.  this layout was fun to do and looking back, it is what really started the onslaught of her recruiting ride.  at present, megan is being actively recruited by over 30 schools.  how exciting and CRAZY is that?!  when i was recruited for soccer (like mother, like daughter), i took the first offer and was all like, "woo hoo, let's go!"  today it is a whole other process.  we go on college visits and meet with coaches and talk soccer shop and listen to all the things they can do for her. and did you know that colleges now ROCK?!  i went to a private school but it seems like the ghetto now.  i mean in one school, they had starbucks and papa john's pizza as part of their MEAL PLAN!! and free laundry!!!  do you remember how hard it was to scrounge around to find quarters?!  and the facilities are amazing.  it is really neat to see.  again, i am also thankful that megan's hard work and sacrifice are paying off (in 1st grade we call this "making a connection" to my opening blog post.. :)

this girl right here.  my first born.  my oldest girl.  my first of everything.  the one whom with i became a mother.  the one i currently want to BEAT WITH A STICK.  

i remember butting heads with my dad before i went to college, experimenting with my independence...pushing the envelope.  this is what i have on my hands right now...only she has ONE MORE YEAR until she goes off to college.  love her dearly, but MAN!!!  moms of teens, you feel me. :)

i can't believe it is july!  the weather here has been crappy.  lots of rain and clouds.  we have only been to the pool FOUR TIMES! :(  that is unheard of (and unacceptable because I am a teacher and have the summer's off).  the only upside is i got a little more scrapping in.  proof:

this is our new puppy, cooper.  he goes well with unity stamps, don't ya think?! :)  while he is adorable, he is a handful and is wearing us out!  I am looking forward to the day where he is older and doesn't randomly pee or chew on things!!

my baby boy's birthday hip hop!

wut up, hip hoppers?!  it's a happy birthday to my middle child and only son, RYAN ERICKSON!!  he is turning 14 today!!!  I am freaking out a bit.  it does not seem possible that he is now 14.  as a tribute to my guy, I am sharing all sorts of old ryan Erickson layouts.  see here:























ryan always cracked us up when he was little with the things he said.  i feel very fortunate and thankful that I recorded a ton of it through scrapbooking.  we sat around the table last night reading the journaling from old layouts.  good stuff.

mc-hip hop!

i have always loved art and photos and craftiness, so it is no surprise that i got into scrapbooking.  however, when i look back at old layouts and create the layout like i am sharing today, i realize scrapbooking to me is really about the story for me.  first of all, i have a horrible memory.  i remember being in college and taking a quiz on some chapters of a book that i had JUST read the night before.  i kid you not, i could not remember the main characters' names.  terrible. memory. 


scrapbooking is as much about the photos as it is about the stories behind the photos for me and my family.  as my kids get older (17.5, almost 14, and 10.5!!!), it is great to look back and reflect upon their childhood.  we sit around and go through scrapbooks and just laugh and laugh.  it is fan-freakin-tastic!


and what is up with me?!  this is more dialog on a post than i have shared all year!! :)  so on to the show:

rock, paper, scissors hop!

everyone has some serious spring fever here.  within a week we went from -25 (with wind chill) to nearing 60.  it is crazy...but i love it.  I am totally cool with a little spring stopping by.


so happy hip hop again.  I am using my all time favorite SWAK stamps.  they are THE best for scrapbooking.  by far.





i have NO idea why my child does this look in 50 % of the pictures she takes.  i admit that i, too, have struck that pose. it's kinda catchy.

hip hop american style...

i come from a military family.  all three of my uncles were green berets in the army.  my dad is currently on a book tour across the united states with a true story account of his time in Vietnam (where he saved over 200 lives).  so when i saw these new unity stamps, i quickly fell in love.




the stamps were the perfect touch to my tribute layout.
