1. a group of my kids were at a painting center. i overhear one of the girls (this girl has a bit of a speech problem and a grand imagination) saying this: "i turned my grandma into a BARFLY. she is the best barfly. she is a pretty barfly. there is no barfly better than my grandma!" i thought i was going to pee my pants! translation: BARFLY= butterfly. :)
2. during a journal entry, one of my boys (i actually taught this boy's MOM when she was in 8th grade!) drew a picture of me. next to me was a building with a sign on it that read: "BAR". so i said, in my best teacher voice, "wow. what a great picture. tell me about this place here." he says, "that's the bathroom, duh!" of course! my classroom is right next to the bathroom and he used first grade sound stretching to spell it out. :)
it's going to be a SUPER year!

Umm, I was wondering if that kid knew you better than you thought?
Those are fun stories, you gotta love what comes out of kids mouths!
Too funny. My second graders start school on the 2nd. I can't wait to hear what they have to say or see what they do. The best stories always come from the students.
That is so funny! I can't wait to hear more Barfly and Bar stories! :)
Ha-ha! Such fun teaching the little guys! My fifth graders come up with some good ones occasionally.
LOL Keep 'em coming Jen!! Love your stories!
LOL - I have to agree with Carla!
One of the bartenders at the bar I hang out in also teaches kindergarten here locally. One night this guy was hitting on her and SWORE up and down he "knew her" (you know the drill)...she looked him in the eye and told him it was because she was his son's teacher and she'd met him and his wife at conferences...oops!
OMG that is too funny and totally precious. the "Things that kids say" . Love it.
Hope that you have a great bunch of kids this year. Heather is in her 2nd full year and she says this year so far is going good. She also is the JV Cheerleading coach. She reminds me so much of you, Jen.
That's hilarious!!!
Kids say the funniest things. Thanks for sharing I got a giggle out of this.
ROFL Those are awesome! You need to share more of those! Love that.
Ok, how freaky that you had that kid's mom as a student!
