no more pencils, no more books!

life has been crazy busy. aside from megan's softball and travel soccer, my soccer and coaching, and ryan's baseball...the last weeks of school are so hectic! first graders grow and progress so much the last part of school that i have to assess them right up until the last week. testing first graders is not at all like testing the kids i taught in middle school. most of the assessment has to be done one on one. but that i can handle. that i love. it's the other stuff that drives me crazy. what SUCKS (my first graders like to use the word "disdainful") BIG TIME is that i have to tear down and pack up everything in my room, only to put it right back up (in the same exact space) 2 months from now IN THE SWELTERING HEAT (no air). it makes sense if i am getting my room painted. i am ok with that. otherwise, i think it's RIDICULOUS. why do i have to remove all posters? no one washes my wall. and if they did, i would say it was pointless. here's another great pack up rule: if the district purchased a bookcase, you can leave your things on it. if the TEACHER (and go bless her for it) purchased the bookcase herself, everything must be removed and boxed up. shut up...its' true! i tell no lies here. anyway, this is the first year, in 14 years of teaching, that i have to go back this week and finish packing up. ok, vent over. check out my super cute room! :)
and yes, those ARE napoleon dynamite posters adorning my walls. :)

I love the pictures Jen! I do think it is crazy that you have to pack up your room too! My BFF teaches high school and she has to do the same thing. I hope you are able to get everything done quickly! :)

I remember that - and you have way more stuff for a first grade teacher than I had for a 9th grade teacher! I dutifully packed it up the first 3 years that I taught. Then I rebeled and refused to do it anymore. I even put butcher paper over my bookshelves and wrote "do not move" on them. I would pack up my desk so that they could move it out and mop/wax the floor. The custodian told me it would make the floor yucky where my shelves were - but I didn't care...they weren't moving anywhere different!
Oddly, nothing ever happened. I don't know if it's b/c the principal knew it was a silly thing and didn't care of if "the powers that be" never knew.

Your room looks so fun and inviting. Enjoy the summer!!!!
