hip hoppin' to school

so, i have been teaching for 15 years...8th grade, 6th grade, 4th grade, and 1st. after all that time, i had a new "first" the other day. in all of my years teaching, i have never had this happen. so i am working at a table with 3 kids, facing me. they are scrapbooking (shut up, it's true! they love it). so one of my boys comes in from ESL and is headed my direction. thank god he did not get to me because he PUKED all over the place. on the floor, the chairs the kids were sitting in, 2 out of the 3 kids, some of the scrapbook paper...OMG! it was even in one girl's hair and the side of her face. that is how my monday started. yaaaaaay for school!!!!! and for the record, my first graders handled it like champs...even the girl who really got it. she says, "well, i can't wait to hear what my mom has to say about THIS!" :)

my HERO is my dad. he just is. this is an old layout i framed for him one father's day. it was right after he got custody of my brothers. i was a senior in high school. he sacrificed a lot to raise us. he has always been there and i am 100% confident that he always will. he will always be my hero for that.

however, i MUST say that my dad has always been larger than life. he is a decorated war hero, green beret captain. he has been in books and magazines. he was a secret service agent for some 22 years. he protected presidents, vice presidents, and dignitaries. i've seen him on tv with presidents. it was pretty cool. so not only is he my hero, he has been others' as well.

shocking as it may sound, i have nothing witty or clever or even partly entertaining to say. i have been off school for 2 days with strep throat. 15 years teaching and this is my first time getting it. i am lucky in that sense. but, omg. miserable. but i will get better and be back next hip hop with my charming self. :)
