so, in the beginning of
june we had dog trouble. it was pretty scary for a while there. long story short: one day he had a small cut under his eye. looked like he
scratched it on something. no big deal. less than 2h hours later, he has a boat load of bleeding sores on his face and feet. this is, of course, at 5:04pm. the emergency vet gave him an antibiotic and allergy pills. the next day it was EVEN worse! his face was swollen and he weeping sores were
everywhere...face, nose, ears, feet, belly, back...you name it, he has either swollen bumps or open wounds. we couldn't even love on him and he had to be confined to the kitchen/mud room b/c he was bleeding all over the house. our vet saw him and said (after they tested him for what could have been a fatal disease) they suspected and auto-immune disease like lupus, but only the
biopsies could tell. he was put on
steroids (which made him have accidents in the house) and
heavy duty
steroids. two weeks go by and he is healing. the lab results come back. no lupus. instead, he has
allergies and was an itching fool. he must have scratched himself a cut and then contracted a VERY bad bacterial infection. shut up! it's true!
so, over $1000 later (good thing i am teaching summer school), he is finishing up his antibiotics in another week or so and will be on allergy pills in the
spring and fall (a whopping $4 for a 400 count bottle at
sams -
yesssssssss!). he
is on the road to recovery and we are all so very thankful! he may have some scarring on his nose, but that's cool. everyone knows scars make you look tough and give you character!
the photos above do not even do justice to how bad it really looked. he looks like the images you see in horror movies. his eyes were so swollen shut and bloody that it looked like they had been gauged out. gross, i know. the bottom post is pre-craziness.
anyway, he is back to normal and we love him (to quote
abby) "SO SO MUCH!"
